Job Summary We are looking for an Lead Animal Care Technician to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Poolesville, MD.

In the Lead ACT role, you can do that by ensuring the health and well-being of all rodent and NHP species, as well as the integrity of the research.

In the Lead Animal Care Technician role, you will use existing SOPs and quality assurance standards to monitor animal health and welfare by performing daily health observations and animal husbandry duties to maintain the quality and health of research animals, as well as assist with technical procedures.
You will also be asked to maintain accurate and legible records relating to animals and facility functions, and you may be requested to assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of various animal species.
Additional tasks could include receiving, inspecting, and housing incoming animal shipments; operating necessary equipment; and performing general housekeeping.
The Lead ACT role also coordinates day-to-day activities for the animal care staff, as well as mentorship to existing staff and providing training to new hires, in addition to presenting any required weekly training material to all animal care staff.
This position will partner with management assist with any necessary investigation into issues concerning animal care staff.
The Lead ACT will also ensure compliance with and provide support to the NHP environmental enrichment and psychological well-being plan, as well as PMP.
Strict enforcement of procedures to maintain animal housing areas is a must.
This position also supports facility troubleshooting, identifies and repairs facility-related maintenance needs, and addresses areas of concern.
In addition, this role participates in data collection and resolution submission during investigations; routinely participates in the QA program and takes part in QC initiatives; monitors room sanitation; and performs minor facility repairs (including repairs to fence lines and caging).
Who we are looking for? High school diploma or GED, and three or more years of related (non-human primate) animal care and handling experience.
AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) required.
AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level (LAT) or have equivalent training and experience to achieve ALAT-level certification.
The pay range for this position is $28.
00 - 30.
00 per hour.
